During pregnancy, the growing fetus takes up much of the space inside the abdomen. This includes where nerves and blood vessels travel. As the baby continues to grow, it can put pressure on the sciatic nerve as well as the arteries that allow blood to flow into the legs. If the baby puts pressure on either of these, it can result in numbness and tingling that extends down the length of the leg towards the feet. As the baby shifts, the pressure will be relieved. When a woman gets closer to her delivery date, the pressure placed on the nerves and blood vessels may be much more intense. Chiropractic adjustments and massage therapy sessions can help to restore blood flow and eliminate the intense tingling.
